Not going to lie, at first I wasn't sure of this movie. Both of the stars are great actors. The last time they were together was for Adventureland back in 2009. Third time around watching it, I actually got through the whole thing. At the end of that movie, you sum it up into an 'ok' title, but certainly no box office hit. However, now they've come back new and improved promoting their action/comedy American Ultra, which was actually pretty entertaining.

Giving you the heads up now, all the comedic scenes are basically all in the trailer, so if you didn't like what you saw there, then I suggest you move onto something else.
This film had much more action in it than I intended, and less comedy. It has its funny parts throughout, but nothing that'll really stay in your head after the movie is finished. It's mainly death scenes you'll be remembering in this one!
Jesse Eisenberg plays an anxious character named Mike Howell who works at a lonely gas station, likes to smoke weed and expand his horizons on his creativity by drawing comic book illustrations during his night shifts. He seems to be an ordinary man up until they tell you he's a subject trained by the CIA (intrigued yet?).
Kristen Stewart plays his girlfriend Phoebe. She has quite the background, but nothing I'd say on here in case of revealing too much.
And of course for your plot; something has gone terribly wrong and it's up to them to save themselves. And most of the time, Mike Howell has no idea what's happening. Also the relationship between the two of them goes quite deep. There are scenes that sort of make you want to shed a tear, but you can't because the rest of the movie is so ridiculous, in a funny way.
So drugs, romance, guns, explosives, enemies, and lots of fire. This may even sound like a new James Bond movie! (I'm kidding)

What I really enjoyed about this one was Jesse's awkward humour. You have to really appreciate that social awkwardness he's gifted with in order to enjoy the movie experience, on the comedy level anyway...
For the action, just sit back and relax and let the movie take its toll. It's quite the roller coaster ride, well, an awkward one, but it keeps you captivated.
