American Ultra

Another Eisenberg and Stewart duet; involving lots of weed this time around...

Not going to lie, at first I wasn't sure of this movie. Both of the stars are great actors. The last time they were together was for Adventureland back in 2009. Third time around watching it, I actually got through the whole thing. At the end of that movie, you sum it up into an 'ok' title, but certainly no box office hit. However, now they've come back new and improved promoting their action/comedy American Ultra, which was actually pretty entertaining.
(Are you interested in seeing their newest project in the Woody Allen film currently in production?)

Giving you the heads up now, all the comedic scenes are basically all in the trailer, so if you didn't like what you saw there, then I suggest you move onto something else.
This film had much more action in it than I intended, and less comedy. It has its funny parts throughout, but nothing that'll really stay in your head after the movie is finished. It's mainly death scenes you'll be remembering in this one!
Jesse Eisenberg plays an anxious character named Mike Howell who works at a lonely gas station, likes to smoke weed and expand his horizons on his creativity by drawing comic book illustrations during his night shifts. He seems to be an ordinary man up until they tell you he's a subject trained by the CIA (intrigued yet?).
Kristen Stewart plays his girlfriend Phoebe. She has quite the background, but nothing I'd say on here in case of revealing too much.
And of course for your plot; something has gone terribly wrong and it's up to them to save themselves. And most of the time, Mike Howell has no idea what's happening. Also the relationship between the two of them goes quite deep. There are scenes that sort of make you want to shed a tear, but you can't because the rest of the movie is so ridiculous, in a funny way.

So drugs, romance, guns, explosives, enemies, and lots of fire. This may even sound like a new James Bond movie! (I'm kidding)
You'll also learn how to use your everyday household objects as very dangerous weapons.

What I really enjoyed about this one was Jesse's awkward humour. You have to really appreciate that social awkwardness he's gifted with in order to enjoy the movie experience, on the comedy level anyway...
For the action, just sit back and relax and let the movie take its toll. It's quite the roller coaster ride, well, an awkward one, but it keeps you captivated.

I liked this movie. It was an interesting role for Stewart and Eisenberg, and there's nothing wrong with stepping outside the box. I'd recommend the watch. It'll give you a good amount of action versus the belly aching laughs that you might not get.

The Night Before

Lets be honest, I get way too excited for Seth Rogen movies. I am aware that not quite all of them are that entertaining to watch, but a Seth and James Franco combo? I'm there. (It's a guilty pleasure.)
I couldn't wait any excess days to see this. So I decided to see The Night Before at Silvercity, myself, and let me tell you, it was a real treat.

This movie plot is about a few men who celebrate their last Christmas Eve celebration consisting of drugs, alcohol and heavy partying, due to the fact that they're all grown fully into adulthood and their lives are just too busy to keep partying the way they usually do.
One final year to let it all out!
This was one of the biggest drug induced Rogen films I've seen, besides Pineapple Express of course, and I have to say, seeing Rogen spaz out in the men's washroom, with shrooms and cocaine pumping through his body and recording horrid iPhone videos on his phone admitting his life problems, is one of the best scenes from a movie I'll remember for a while. Rogen was the main catch in this film for hilarity; his Jewish sweater/Jesus jokes being the icing on the cake! Joseph Gordon Levitt, however, was just a pretty face to look at. He blends well into Seth Rogen's background, but why are you okay with settling in the background?
What I'm saying is, why be in a comedy if you're going to be outwitted and not funny? But no hard feelings here for Levitt, we all love him. Especially in his Christmas sweater! Anyways...

Anthony Mackie's scenes were quite a handful and awkwardly funny. Personally, I like him better in action movies.
The fact that almost the rest of the cast is from The Interview makes it that much better, even if James Franco is only in it for a homo erotic clippet.

Tired of movie surfing and just absolutely CANNOT decide what to watch on Netflix?! Well, if you're looking for a nice holiday movie, then watch The Night Before! It's got your jokes, racism, drugs, love interests, babies, snow, Miley Cyrus. The list just never ends.
And it's fun for the whole family!

I recommend this movie definitely. It got sort of weird at times, and random, but what were you expecting? There's some scenes in there that you'll really get a kick out of. Go watch, go watch!

Goodnight Mommy

If you're wanting to see some true evil on screen, I'm currently suggesting this title to everybody I encounter.
If you're growing bored from all the super gore, death-during-sex scenes, haunted houses, possessions and just your same old, same old Freddy, Jason, Michaels Myers classics and remakes, then I suggest you explore your horizons a little bit (although I did hear that Myers was getting yet ANOTHER remake after Rob Zombies, so we'll see how that goes...)

Austria is making horror films, and I gotta say, they're ranking high on my charts so far. This movie, Goodnight Mommy, was everything I was hoping it'd be, and then some.

Basically, the mom returns home to her two sons after being under the knife for cosmetic surgery. She's got all these bandages over her face, and in all honesty, she looks like something you'd see on Halloween night. Her image makes you not want to be in that house with her, because she looks so damn spine chilling. You could see the inhuman parts of her inside and out, and I was starting to wonder what kind of sketchy supernatural juice the doctors pumped into her. To add onto that, it wasn't just her blood shot eyes and bandages, but also her body language. The way she walked, the way she would pose, the way she opens a door and peaks her head past the doorway, it was all just fucking creepy, and that my friends, is the proper role you're supposed to play in a horror movie.
It felt like I was watching The Strangers again!
Anyway, back to the plot. The sons clearly get this stranger vibe from her and their lives start to spiral from there. They're conviced that she's not their "mommy", and they brainstorm and come up with some pretty twisted ideas of how they're going to prove that theory.
It's that moment when kids act like adults and do adult things, even the criminally insane adult type of things...
This is the turning point in the film where things start to get immensely fascinating, and then your jaw hits the floor a couple times. Literally.

If it wasn't for Susanne Wuest, who plays mommy, I'm not sure if this movie would have done justice, but thankfully it did, and was very entertaining.
And thank you to Elias and Lukas Schwarz for being the twisted twins that you are.
This movie has little to no gore, and it's not all over the map; the plot is set at this one house (very nice I must say), in the middle of nowhere. They go as far as the backyard, that's it. For a horror film with limited boundaries like that, the director relies only on the psychology to really screw with you mentally. And admit it, we all love that sort of thing.

I recommend this movie to you. Watch it, watch it. It's an out of the ordinary horror film, and it certainly has my vote for a great international film too!

Look at that face! Look!

Tusk

Where should I start...

Still trying to think where I should start...

Ok, so. In the past, if you've had the urge to watch Human Centipede, then you'll have the urge to watch this film. Unfortunately, I've obviously had the "urge".
Wish I didn't but I did...

I don't think I'll master the biography about this film without making you cringe, so I'm just going to guide you to Google on this one. And as in cringe, I'm not referring to any extremely disturbing scenes, I'm mainly referring to the comedy they associated into this movie. The comedy makes you cringe. Makes you wonder if adding comedy was even a good idea? I wonder what it would have been like if they just kept it your basic horror...
Furthermore, let's just say, Justin Long needs to retrieve his Dodgeball uniform and live in the past, because that's as good as it's going to get for him.
"Mr. Long, do you think your uniform will fit over your walrus costume?"

Don't get me started on Haley Joel Osment.
The Sixth Sense? Pay It Forward? You don't see any of that in this film, and yes, I'm aware that was many years ago. However, I don't necessarily think acting talent wanes so quickly, you just got to find the right part. He still has yet to impress me.
There's a man in this too who plays the f**ked up doctor, unfortunately though I can't remember his name and I don't want to search it either because I know the horrid movie images will show again.

With all that being said, my point is probably pretty clear.
Hey, if you want to watch a super weird, awkward movie, the Internet is open to you, but if you have a bad feeling from this movie trailer and the movie posters, don't fool yourself; listen to your bad feeling, it's trying to tell you something.

I don't recommend the watch. Sorry guys, keep movie surfing.
